SNI stands for Standard för svensk näringsgrensindelning (Swedish Standard Industrial Classification). It identifies the main activity a company conducts and is based on the EU’s NACE standard. SNI codes are primarily used for statistics, reporting, and industry benchmarking.
The EU is modernising the classification framework to better reflect today’s economy. The current version, SNI 2007, has been in use for 17 years — during which time entire industries have evolved, particularly within IT and services. The new classification aims to provide a more accurate and up-to-date picture of modern business activities.
From 2025, all EU countries will adopt the new codes to:
✅ Ensure more accurate and up-to-date statistics
✅ Improve the comparability of industry data between EU countries
✅ Align with the new European standard, NACE Rev. 2.1
Approximately half a million Swedish companies will have their SNI codes updated. Each business is responsible for checking whether their current code will change. For most companies, this will simply mean a new code with the same meaning — but in some cases:
Creditsafe will implement the new SNI 2025 codes for Sweden on December 10, 2025.
From that point, the updated classification will be available across all Creditsafe services.
Because SNI code changes cannot be automatically monitored, you’ll need to decide whether to retrieve updated information through separate API calls. If you plan to refresh all or part of your customer database, we recommend doing so from December 11 onwards.
You can view the full SNI 2025 structure on the Statistics Sweden (SCB) website, including mappings between the old and new codes. Additional information and guidelines is also available there.
You can verify and update your SNI code directly with SCB up until November 21. If you don’t make the update yourself, SCB will automatically reclassify your company based on your annual reports and business descriptions. This automatic process may be less accurate than updating it yourself.
